Engineer. Entrepreneur. Author. Curious human.

What if the problem isn't you?

What if it's the system you've been trying to fit? I'm Susie. I ask awkward questions, pull things apart, and figure out how to create something better.

A particular way of thinking

I don't have a particular industry. I have a particular way of thinking.

I started out as a chemical engineer. Somewhere along the way, I became an entrepreneur, an inventor, a writer and a person who is forever asking, “But why does it have to work that way?”

I'm fascinated by the assumptions we build our lives and businesses around. The interesting bit starts when we stop treating those assumptions as rules.

Sometimes the answer is a new product. Sometimes it's a better business process. Sometimes it's a completely different way of seeing yourself.

How my brain works

Question. Investigate. Rebuild.

I love the moment when someone realises that the thing holding them back might not be a limitation at all. It might just be a system nobody thought to question.

01 / Question

What's the real problem? And which assumptions have we mistaken for facts?

02 / Investigate

Pull the puzzle apart. Look at what fits, what doesn't, and what's missing.

03 / Rebuild

Imagine a better way — then figure out how to create it.

A few things I've made

Different projects. Same curiosity.

My career has taken a few turns. The thread connecting them is a refusal to accept that the existing way is the only way.

Skanties

What if smoothing your clothes didn't mean squeezing your body? I built a comfort-first alternative — and started a different conversation.

Divorce Diary

What if navigating divorce didn't have to feel so overwhelming? We're building thoughtful technology to help people organise and find clarity.

Susie Unshaped · Watch, listen & explore

From questioning the rules to living differently.

Unshaped grew from my original 31-day challenge — an exploration of what we've been taught, reconnecting with ourselves and discovering what feels true.

I don't have a particular industry. I have a particular way of thinking. And technology has made it easier than ever to follow an idea wherever it leads — a business, a book, a conversation, a meditation or a song.

On air & in conversation

I do love a good conversation.

I've shared ideas about entrepreneurship, body confidence, building businesses and questioning the status quo on television, in interviews and on podcasts.

People I build with

Serious ideas. Not-so-serious people.

Anna and I have spent years pulling apart business problems and dreaming up better ways of doing things. We genuinely do this for fun.

One of our favourite questions to ask a business owner is: “In a perfect world, what would you actually love to spend your days doing?” Then we work backwards from that answer, rather than accepting all the tedious stuff as inevitable.

We've worked together, travelled together and even treated ourselves to a beautiful hotel room by the beach for a business-planning session. Apparently, that's our idea of a good time.

Now we're bringing that same curiosity to what we're building next.

One last question

What if there's a
better way?

I'm always interested in good questions, interesting people and ideas that don't quite fit the usual mould.
